The Sad State of Affairs of Handgun Training in Massachusetts
The majority of gun owners in Massachusetts take their Basic Firearms Safety Course and that is where they stop their training. They fail to seek out further knowledge and instruction from trainers who know not only what they are teaching but how to teach it. Instead they do their own learning on places like Youtube and Google before seeking out handgun training in Massachusetts.
Which is fine… self education is the first step.
But you will only get so far.
We were the same way when we started back in 2011…
We had some knowledge, a bit of experience… but we hadn’t refined our craft.
You would think that a couple of cops with military and law enforcement experience and decades of training under their belts would be relative subject matter experts.
Then we ramped up our training and saw our skills skyrocket. Granted we were drinking from the firehose of knowledge at the Sig Sauer Academy but the point is we increased our knowledge in order to be able to provide you all with the CORRECT information in a way that is easy to understand.
Unfortunately a lot of instructors in the area stick to the tired old NRA methodology… which only gets you so far.
THE NEXT STEP IN THE TRAINING PROCESS
It would be easier for be to just show you a video on it….
The pistol skill builder course is designed from the ground up to teach you the fundamentals of pistol shooting. We threw out all of the textbook heavy, classroom based, death by powerpoint teaching styles. We immerse you in an adult learning environment. You learn by seeing, imitating and then doing. Biofeedback is king for us.
I can show you all day long but you won’t get it until you do it yourself.
It is YOUR responsibility to continually seek training.
It is YOUR responsibility to arm yourself with knowledge.
It is YOUR responsibility to be accurate when the time comes.
So get off of the couch and hit the range.

Posted at 12:23h, 26 FebruaryHi Rob, thanks for this post. I’ve had a license to carry for over 20 years and until recent years, my only class was the basic class required to receive my LTC. I know far too many people in that same situation. Thankfully, I’ve wisened up and gotten more involved in defensive shooting practice and seeking out firearms training. It’s very hard to find next level training in Massachusetts for regular civilians so I look forward to seeing more offerings from Tacdynamics.

Posted at 20:10h, 01 JuneHad a good day with Johnny and Brendon today in Foxboro. Good to practice the “fundamentals” again and you can tell with Jon it is a passion and not just a job. Rob, how about some more classes with Johnny, Brendon and/or James?
